God Grant Me Patience

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its works so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."  (James 1 v 2-4)

Why don't we see more of God's promises fulfilled in our lives? Because we overlook the process. It is in the process of reaching the promise that we become discouraged and quit. Success in any venture lies in holding on, even when others let go. We demand instant gratification and if we don't get it we leave our jobs, our churches, and even our families. But there is a process we all must go through, regardless of our level of faith. There are no shortcuts. We have got to pay full price; it never is cheap or goes on sale. Patience and endurance is the price tag of achievement.

Life is not so easy as we think. Life is full of surprises. Being a Christian does not give us the assurance that we will never encounter problems along the journey of life anymore. In most cases we will have.......bigger ones....greater ones....Satan is constantly doing everything to steal, kill and destroy the plan and purpose of God for mankind. The Devil is relentless in his activities because he knows that believers are strong in Jesus Christ and difficult to be defeated.

When we are rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ, christians know that there is nothing to be afraid of. God will always fight for us. He shields our way. He gives us the best protection. He gives us the best solution. He provides and sustains us. He shows us the way through difficult and challenging situations. Sometimes we easily get distracted by the chaos that's going on around us and subsequently forget to focus on God. He has everything in control but we tend to moan, murmur and grumble.Quite often we get frustrated, angry, confused, anxious, doubtful and fearful. We may not realise it at that precise moment, but every problem has a solution or a valuable lesson to be learnt.

Pray that God will reveals to us wisdom. God does not put individuals in a situation, that He knows we can't get out from. But we need to realise and understand importantly God wants each of us to put our trust and confidence in Him alone! Do you rermember the story of Abraham? of Job? On both ocassions, God tested them for a period of time. However Abraham and Job remained faithful, and the Lord richly blessed them. God is faithful. God promised that He will never leave us. Humans, often forget what they have promised each other to do, but God does not. God knows the right time for everything.

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will." (Romans 12 v 2)

We may not always get what God has promised us immediately, but He is definitely working on it. God never stop working on our behalf, as long as we remain obedient. Sometimes when we have trials, tribulations, challenges etc God exposes us and allows us to experience things that are meant and are clearly part of His refining process. Thus resulting in us inreasing our faith, obtaining a better attitude and character. The end result is that God is glorified, and acknowledged for delivering us. To Him alone we give all the thanks.

For many years, William Wilberforce campaigned to abolish the slave trade. Discouraged, he was about to give up when his elderly friend John Wesley heard of his campaign, and from his deathbed called for pen and paper. With trembling hand, Wesley wrote;

'Unless God has raised you up for this very thing, you will be worn out by the opposition of men and of devils. But if God be for you, who can be against you? Are all of them stronger than God? O be not weary in well doing! Go on, in the name of God and in the power of His might, till even American slavery shall vanish away before it.'

Wesley died six days later. Wilberforce fought for 42 more years. Three days before his death, slavery was abolished in Britain. Eventually, it was abolished in America too.

God is a God of love and at times, a God of wrath. He chastens whom He loves. He hugs us when we cry, smiles at us when we feel sad, He lift us when we try to reach for something. He even steps out of the boundary between Himself and humans to show how much He deeply cares for us. But do we see that? There are times, when tribulations cover our eyes and prevent us from seeing the prescence and glory of God. May we make time to listen to what He's trying to tell us. May we hold onto Him tightly. What God has in store for you is worth any price that you have to pay in fulfilling His will for your life.
