Haggai was the first of the post-exilic prophets. The other two were Zechariah and Malachi.
When the Israelites first returned from Babylon, they had set about rebuilding the Temple. Although they began with the right attitude, the people eventually slipped back into wrong behaviour and the work came to a standstill.
Haggai’s message to the people sought to get their priorities straight, help them quit worrying and motivate them to rebuild the Temple.
Believers make similar mistakes in their daily lives. It is easy to make other priorities more important instead of doing God’s will. God wants believers to follow through and build up His kingdom. Do not stop and do not make excuses. Set your heart on what is right and do it. If God gives you a task, do not be afraid to get started. His resources are infinite and He will help you complete it, giving you encouragement from others along the way.
