Jesus Christ Is The Mediator Of The New Covenant

“For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man (Jesus Christ) the many will be made righteous.” (Romans 5 v 19)

It was through the obedience of Jesus Christ, that He became the perfect sacrifice and the Author of eternal salvation. It was Jesus obedience unto death that made His blood accepted as the only sacrifice sufficient to take away man’s sin and restore his relationship back to God.

Through His death, His broken body and the shedding of His blood, the New Covenant was put into effect. Jesus Christ became the mediator of the New Covenant. There is only ONE WAY to enter into a covenant relationship with God....through Jesus Christ. It is through Him, that we can receive the promise of our eternal inheritance!

In the upper room when Jesus offered His disciples the unleavened bread and the cup of wine, He was not just establishing another religious ceremony for new believers to follow. He was offering them LIFE. The unleavened bread and the cup of wine were symbols of Himself, Who was and is the source of life!

Upon entering Jerusalem, Jesus had sent His disciples to make the necessary preparations for them to observe the Passover together. When all was made ready, Jesus told them;

“I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer” (Luke 22 v 15).

In other words, Jesus was telling the disciples this is the day I have longed to see. This is the day for which I was born. This was the hour for which He had waited, when the purpose for His coming to earth would be fulfilled. Jesus had come to establish a new and better Covenant. Jesus Christ had come to do away with the Old Covenant, based upon the sacrifices of animals, and to establish the New Covenant based upon one single Sacrifice...His own life...once and for all time, which would forever free mankind from his sins. No further animal sacrifice was needed!

Stop and think for one moment. Can you imagine the emotion that grew on the inside of Jesus as He ate the flesh of the sacrificial lamb....signifying His own sacrificial death....and drank the fruit of the vine, representing His own blood? Upon the completion of the Passover meal, Jesus Christ set forth the New Covenant.

“For this is My blood of the new covenant, which (ratifies the agreement and) is being poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26 v 28)

The unleavened bread represented Jesus body... His flesh....that would be broken on the cross. The cup of wine represented His blood. His body and His blood represented His entire Being, which He was willingly offering up to God to forgive mankind of their sin! Therefore Jesus Christ is the mediator of the New Covenant, because He came to establish and proclaim it.

“For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance – now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant” (Hebrews 9 v 15)
