Mother You Matter

‘HER CHILDREN.....CALL HER BLESEED; HER HUSBAND ALSO...PRAISES HER...’(PROVERBS 31:28 NKJ*)

A man who felt neglected because his wife was spending so much time with the kids, decided to make a change. Storming into the house he announced,

‘As the man of this house, my word is law! From now on I expect you to prepare gourmet meals every night, run my bath, and leave out my clothes. Then afterwards, guess who is going to dress me and comb my hair?’

Quietly his wife replied’ ‘The funeral director!’

As a mother it is easy to wonder if what you are doing even matters: your work is never done; you are always exhausted; there is no big financial reward. Plus, when the society you live in diminishes motherhood, it is hard to value your own investment.

But never forget this; you are highly esteemed by the God who says that children are some of His most precious gifts (see Psalm 127:3). The Bible describes a conscientious mother as one who, ‘.......senses the worth of her work...(is) diligent in homemaking...faces tomorrow with a smile...has something worthwhile to say, and...always says it kindly..Her children respect and bless her; her husband joins in with words of praise...’ (Proverbs 31:18-28 TM*)

So, Mum, while your role is not defined by a paycheque or promotion, remember, you are vitally important to your children’s well-being physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually.

You can never over estimate the influence of a Godly mother. Remember Hannah, Samuel’s mother, who said, ‘I am giving him to the Lord for as long as he lives’ (1 Samuel 1:28 TLB*). No wonder he became one of Israel’s greatest prophets! God still moulds tomorrow’s leaders in the homes of today!
