Pride

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away; behold all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5 v 17)

...behold all things...

is the reason why many individuals remain stagnant on their way to great achievements. I write this article borne out of my own experience, trusting that it will be a blessing to someone going through pride challenges. I have tried to look back at myself in a mirror with the intention of exposing pride in its raw and undiluted state. As individuals, some of our attitudes are destructive because they are pride-motivated and quite often you do not see the potential consequences immediately.(Isaiah 14 v 13-14) (Mark 7 v 21-23)It is all things, not a few things - attitudes and character inclusive. It is every believer's responsibility to become pure and Holy, without blemish before GOD!

Pride operates in disguise and destroys subtly. Pride is an attitude contracted through selfishness, desires for power, position and prestige. Pride is not of God and cannot be found in God. Therefore, as children of the kingdom we need to eradicate this attitude and character.

Pride (iniquity) is sin before God. This results in the loss of favour and blessings from God in your life and potentially your children and grandchildren's life. The root cause of pride is in the condition of your heart. A rebellious heart is a proud heart.

Rebellion is the seed that bears the tree of pride. A rebellious heart, is both good and fertile ground for pride to grow, developing to a destructive and bitter tree. At all cost, your heart should be guarded because out of it comes the issue of life - attitudes to life and fellow man. Deliberately turn away from rebellion and sow seeds of love, bearing a tree of good things instead!

"For from within, out of the heart of man, proceed evil thoughts, adultery, fornication, murder, theft, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All of these evils come from inside and make a man unclean"

Rebellion is an attitude of the heart which condemns the gifts, talent and the good in others. Pride looks down on others instead of lifting them up. Satan himself began His life this way. He became envious of the sovereignity of God the Almighty. He wished he was the one, the angels bowed down to and worshiiped in heaven. He wished he was the one that gave orders and issued commands to other heavenly beings.

"For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of clouds: I will be like the Most High."

Satan wanted to be like God. Pride! He said it in his heart - he rebelled and went ahead to execute his desire but failed and fell. His heart was full of evil thoughts which led him to evil deeds.

Pride is an attitude of independence from God and an ungrateful spirit.

Pride leads to destruction, so avoid and resist it.

Pride makes individuals feel important when actually they are not.

Pride gives the illusion that you have achieved, when you have not started anything.

Pride makes individuals think and feel they are the best (and without fault), when the best is yet to appear.

Pride turn people away from righteuosness and uprightness, with sad and at times devastating consequences.

A proud person is known by their thoughts, actions and reactions to others.

A proud person is easily identified by the way they talk and body language.

A proud person has no respect for anybody, but wants to be respected by everyone else.

A proud person is someone who accepts praise for things beyond his control and power.

A proud person accepts praise for things he did not make or have the power to bring into existence. Their language always says "If not for me...." or similiar reasoning.

A proud person will not admit their mistake, but rather find excuses to justify their action. Everybody makes mistakes, but we have to learn to accept and amend.

A proud person argues and always wants their points and opinions to prevail.

A proud person refuses corrections and believes they are right in all issues.

A proud person always knows more than others, hence they refuse to be corrected.

A proud person is someone who cannot be corrected or counselled. Watch it you are already tied with chains of pride! The good news is you can be freed, if only you will admit and embrace the truth.

Competition is another attribute of a proud person. Anyone who always wants to compete with others, is ego-driven by pride.

It is a proud person whom ascribes glory, honour, his life and achievements to himself. He takes glory in all things without remembering that it is God, that gives good and perfect gifts to man.

PRIDE

Looking back, my points on reflection are:

1. Live according to what the Bible instructs, it will guide you from making poor decisions and quickly assist you to get back on the right path, if you do lose your direction along the way.

2. I rather bear the pain of discipline, rather the pain of regret.

3. You are where you are, because of the decisions you have made in the past.

4. Whenever your heart says you are better than someone who has the privilege or the right to do something, watch it! Pride is already seeking a permanent habitation in your life. No matter where you find yourself, do not see anybody as threat to you. Do not let someone else's talent or success threaten your self-image, self-esteem or life's destiny making you lose your perspective and throwing you off-course.

5. Competition begins from envy. Competition begins when you think or feel you are the one that ought to be the leader. Nobody stays at the top forever, and nobody occupies a postion forever. Whatever position you occupy there is an expiry date. if you are not voted out, you will be removed or you'll die which will bring your tenure to an end.

6. Every person have their own unique path to walk in. Therefore walk in your own and let others walk in their own. By doing so each person will have the joy of fulfillment of arriving at their goal.

7. As a person thinketh in his heart, so is he/she.

This applies whether it is a good, bad or in-different decision. Therefore you have nobody else to blame other than yourself. Therefore begin making wiser decisons, looking further ahead, weighing up the options and probable outcomes. Most importantly, fulfill the purpose to which God has called and chosen you to perform. Serve God whole heartedly.

Jesus Christ is the ONLY way, truth and Life.

In all things give God thanks for His Love, Grace and Mercy which endures to all generations. Believers in Jesus Christ, are overcomers and victorious through him who redeems, strengthens and purifies us!
